03.12.2025 Events of the Professorship
On 11 November, employees from WOT and PVW attended the 26th FAST/SPS expert group to discuss current research topics in connection with the innovative field-assisted sintering process (FAST/SPS). In this process, powdery starting materials are processed into dense or porous materials by means of resistance heating under pressure in a sintering mould. The meeting was hosted by the Materials & Resources Group of Prof Anke Weidenkaff, Institute of Materials Science at TU Darmstadt. In addition to the hosts' current research topics, work from the Pozna? Institute of Technology and the Fraunhofer IFAM, Dresden, were also presented. Dr Fritsch Sondermaschinen GmbH was represented from industry with a presentation of process engineering innovations. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Martin Bram (Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH), who took over the chairmanship of the expert group from Prof. Oliver Guillon (Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH).

On 6 November 2025, InnoMat IWW e.V. hosted its annual autumn event at the METEOR project house at Chemnitz University of Technology. As usual, numerous members and guests from science and industry accepted the invitation and took the opportunity to discuss the latest developments at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (IWW) and to intensify their collaboration.
20.11.2025 Events of the Professorship
From 24.09.2025-26.09.2025, five scientists from the Chair of Materials and Surface Technology (WOT) took part in the ZVO Surface Days to present their current research results to an interested audience of industry and science experts. For the first time, four students from Chemnitz University of Technology were also invited to take part in the conference as part of the programme to promote young industry members.
07.11.2025 Projects of the professorship
In spring, the DFG approved funding for 12 projects in the priority programme "Cross-process modelling in production technology" (SPP 2476), which will initially be funded for three years. A special feature of a priority programme is the supra-regional cooperation of the scientists involved. The two-day kick-off event on 3 and 4 September 2025 at the AI Production Network at the University of Augsburg provided ample opportunity to get to know each other personally and exchange ideas. The WOT team with the applicants Dr habil. Franziska Bocklisch and Prof. Dr Thomas Lampke is also involved in SPP 2476 in cooperation with Prof. Dr Andreas Schubert (Chair of Microfabrication Technology, TUC) with the sub-project "Cross-process modelling for the production of functionally graded layer systems by thermal spraying and mechanical post-processing - ProModFun".

The project "REAL-USS - Recycled Aluminium for Ultrasonic Welding for Electromobility", co-financed by the EU and the Free State of Saxony, has been running at Chemnitz University of Technology since 1 July 2025. The project is being funded as part of the Just Transition Fund (JTF) through the "InfraProNet 2021-2027" programme.
22.10.2025 International cooperation at the professorship
From 15 September to 14 October 2025, Mr Adam Sajbura from the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology completed his second research stay at the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering (WOT) as part of his PhD programme. During this time, he again worked in the Thermal Coating Department.
21.10.2025 Events of the Professorship
From 29 September to 2 October, our international summer school on "Simulation in Materials and Surface Engineering" took place for the second time. The programme included the basic determination of material and process characteristics, the simulation of heat conduction, process simulations in electroplating technology, the modelling and simulation of mechanical strength as well as estimations of material fatigue and service life based on simulations.
