27.01.2020 Projects of the Professorship

Prediction tool for plasma nitriding results
In a joint project between the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films (IST) and the Chair of WOT at Chemnitz University of Technology, a forecasting tool for plasma nitriding results has been developed for twelve steel grades to date, which, in addition to a broad database of nitriding results, also offers a software-based prediction trained via an artificial neural network.The IGF project IGF 18741 BG entitled "Prediction tool for plasma nitriding processes for the surface treatment of tools and components" of the German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy via the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations "Otto von Guericke" e.V. as part of the programme for the promotion of joint industrial research on the basis of a resolution of the German Bundestag.

Czech grammar schools visit the professorship
A visit makes it easier to decide what to study: 30 pupils from Ústí nad Labem and Liberec visited Chemnitz University of Technology on 28 and 29 November 2019. They also visited the WOT professorship and completed a work placement.

New experimental press for the production of hybrid material composites
The company Mieruch & Hofmann from Limbach-Oberfrohna developed a special joining system for hybrid metal-plastic composites for the WOT professorship, which achieves particularly high cooling rates of significantly more than 100 Kelvin per minute.

WOT researchers significantly involved in the development of an intrinsic hybrid composite
Scientists from the three professorships of Solid Mechanics, Materials and Surface Technology and Materials Science at Chemnitz University of Technology and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU Chemnitz have designed an intrinsic hybrid composite for crash-loaded structural components and produced it in a near-series production process.
