WOT start-up CMMC presents itself at the Hannover Messe 2023
The successful Chemnitz-based start-up CMMC GmbH, which was founded from the WOT professorship, was represented at the internationally important industrial trade fair in Hanover from 17 to 19 April 2023.

On 27 and 28 March 2023, the junior members of the Scientific Working Group of University Professors of Materials Engineering e.V. (WAW) met at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology.

Positive response at the 28th Leipzig DGO specialist seminar
The 28th Leipzig Electroplating and Surface Technology Seminar took place on 9 March 2023 at the Congress Center Leipzig. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, over 200 participants and 42 exhibitors accepted the invitation from the DGO district groups of Saxony and Thuringia. The Chair of Materials and Surface Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology was also part of the event.

From 8 to 10 February 2023, a network meeting of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation took place at Chemnitz University of Technology. The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (IWW) also hosted around 20 scholarship holders from the field of engineering.

Excellent review makes advanced plasma technology accessible to a wide specialist audience
The review "Introduction to Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation - An Overview of the Process and Applications" describes the electro- and plasma-chemical fundamentals of the process, discusses the current state of research and, in co-operation with the German specialist companies Aalberts Surface Technologie, INNOVENT and MEOTEC, names specific application examples.

WOT student receives prize from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD
On 15 December 2022, Linto George Thomas, who is studying for a Master's degree in Advanced Manufacturing and is currently writing his Master's thesis at the WOT Chair after successfully completing his research project, was awarded the DAAD prize for outstanding achievements by foreign students and doctoral candidates at German universities. The WOT professorship congratulates him on this success!

At the annual general meeting of THE GROW ENTREPRENEURS CLUB on 9 December 2022 in Munich, CMMC GmbH received the "Award for Innovative Startups". CMMC GmbH was founded at the beginning of 2021 from the WOT professorship as part of an EXIST research transfer project. Since April 2022, it has been fully independent - and with visible success!

International exchange in the field of thermal spraying and build-up welding at the ITSHC
On 22/23 September 2022, experts from science and industry presented current developments and research approaches in the field of thermal spraying and cladding at the international ITSHC in Wrocław, Poland. The two plenary lectures at the opening of the conference were given by Prof. Dr Lech Pawłowski and Prof. Dr Shrikant Joshi, who taught and researched at the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering (WOT) at Chemnitz University of Technology via the Visiting Scholar Programme at the beginning of this year. The WOT team helped to organise the ITSHC with four scientific presentations and contributed intensively to the in-depth discussions. Special thanks go to the organisers for the organisation and execution of the conference, which was very successful in terms of content and organisation.

Successful resumption of the IWW Colloquium
The fourth IWW Colloquium took place on 10 November 2022. Originating from the colloquium on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the WOT professorship in 2018, which was praised by guests and participants, the IWW Colloquium took place for the first time in November 2019. The colloquium combines the annual report of the IWW professorships with interesting presentations by partners and alumni as well as a networking evening with guests and colleagues. Due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the IWW Colloquium was moved to virtual space in 2020 and 2021. This year, everyone involved was looking forward to the resumption of direct contact and personal dialogue.

International doctoral project successfully completed
Dr Mehri Hashemzadeh worked on large parts of her practical results on her doctoral topic at the WOT professorship between April 2021 and October 2022. Her doctorate on the topic of "Ti incorporation in PEO coatings applied on Al7075 and evaluation of its effects on microstructure and properties of the coatings" was recently awarded by the supervising university, Isfahan University of Technology, Isfahan/Iran, with an excellent evaluation. Dr Hashemzadeh is now starting his career in Germany.
