05.07.2024 Events of the Professorship
Once again this year, internal and external doctoral students met at the Chair of WOT from 24 to 26 June 2024 to present the current status of their doctoral project to their supervisor Prof. Thomas Lampke and other experts. The doctoral topics of the 16 young scientists cover a broad scientific spectrum from galvanic and thermal surface technology to bio-based coatings, the mechanical behaviour of high-performance materials and sustainability concepts in materials and surface technology.
31.05.2024 Personnel of the professorship
The DGO Nasser Kanani Prize is awarded annually for special advances in electrochemical surface technology, taking sustainability aspects into account. This year, it honours, among other things, the research paper "Specification of parasitic electrochemical subprocesses during plasma electrolytic oxidation of magnesium" by Frank Simchen, Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology, which was published in 2023 in the renowned Elsevier journal Electrochimica Acta.
12.05.2024 Personnel of the professorship
Prof Dr Thomas Lampke was elected to the Senate Committee for Collaborative Research Centres of the German Research Foundation DFG. The committee is one of the DFG's highest committees and is responsible for overseeing Collaborative Research Centres from the funding application stage through the review and evaluation process to the funding decision. It consists of up to 40 scientists from all disciplines. Prof. Lampke will be a member of the committee from 1 July 2024 for an initial period of three years.
23.04.2024 Events of the Professorship
The Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL) at TU Dortmund University and the IWW have been cooperating for many years in various research projects and currently also in the DFG Research Group 5380 ("FUNDAM³ENT"). Accordingly, the entire IUL team was delighted to visit on 10 April 2024.
23.04.2024 Personnel of the professorship
On 18 March 2024, Dr.-Ing. habil. Thomas Grund defended his habilitation thesis entitled "Materials engineering in sustainable production". The examination for the associated successful completion of his habilitation procedure at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology consisted of a subsequent disputation and a teaching sample on the topic of direct metallisation of non-metals.
20.03.2024 Events of the Professorship
On 7 March 2024, the 29th Leipzig Technical Seminar took place at the Congress Center in Leipzig with over 220 participants. The specialist seminar is one of the most important ZVO/DGO events with an exciting lecture programme, an informative accompanying exhibition and a wide range of opportunities for professional exchange. The WOT professorship was represented with several contributions.
19.03.2024 Projects of the Professorship
As part of the REDUCE project, employees from the Human-Cyber-Physical Systems (HCPS) department took part in a specialist discussion in the production halls of Vitesco Technologies (VT) in Limbach-Oberfrohna on 27 February 2024. The BMBF-funded joint project REDUCE (Resource Efficiency Derived from User Centered Engineering in Industrial Production) aims to significantly reduce resource consumption in industrial production through human-centred digitalisation measures and a transdisciplinary approach.
14.03.2024 Equipment of the professorship
The new powder atomisation plant at the Chair makes it possible to adapt powder materials to specific applications, customer requirements and manufacturing process profiles. And, of course, the new plant will significantly expand our profile in basic research. Due to their versatile properties and processing options, metal powders have a wide range of technical applications, from the automotive to the electronics industry.
11.03.2024 People in the professorship
The online conference "TSS Thermal Spray Open Mic Series" provides a platform for students and aspiring professionals in the thermal spray industry to meet established experts, leaders and innovators in the field face-to-face. The aim of the series is to promote international knowledge exchange, facilitate discussions on professional development and provide information on the latest advances, techniques and challenges in thermal spray technology.
26.02.2024 Co-operations of the professorship
Prof. Dr Thomas Lampke, Head of the WOT professorship, and Thomas Priemuth, Head of Production Systems at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, have been developing the framework conditions for the content and formal cooperation between the TUC and the BMW plant in Leipzig for some time in order to consolidate the diverse bilateral relationships between professorships at the TU and the BMW plant and make them fit for the future. Now Petra Peterhänsel, Plant Manager of the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, and Prof. Dr Gerd Strohmeier, Rector of the TUC, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 22 February 2024.
