Project on copper coating of cellular wax structures for bespoke heat exchangers completed
Geometrically defined, cellular hollow structures offer a significantly higher surface-to-volume ratio compared with conventional plate heat exchangers. They are therefore ideal for efficient heat exchangers and offer advantages such as design flexibility compared to stochastically formed foams. This enables miniaturisation and weight reduction, but cost-effective manufacturing processes are currently lacking. The aim of the CORNET project WaxCelMet is to develop innovative metal hollow structures and manufacturing processes – from the design of flow-optimised structures, through implementation via additive manufacturing and wax injection moulding, to electroplating with copper.

How do heat-resistant steels behave in H₂/CH₄ combustion atmospheres?
Prof. Lampke and the team at the WOT Chair are investigating this question in collaboration with Prof. Krause and his team from the Chair of Gas and Thermal Engineering Systems at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) as part of the AiF-IGF project HYMES. On 26 March 2025, representatives from both research centres met for an initial internal kick-off meeting. The main objective of the project is to generate reliable data for the safe and efficient use of H₂ in thermal processing plants.

New rotational bending test machine expands the range of test methods under cyclic loading
On 11 December 2024, the newly acquired Power ROTABEND (100 Nm) 4-point rotary bending test system from SincoTec Test Systems GmbH was commissioned at the WOT. This addition to the machine fleet enables the testing of cyclic fatigue resistance under rotational bending, which is relevant, for example, for the use of rotating shafts.
