21.11.2023 Events of the Professorship
On Thursday, 2 November 2023, the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering together with the Förderverein Innovative Materialien IWW e.V. invited to the three events InnoMat IWW e.V. General Meeting, IWW Colloquium and IWW Retreat. The general meeting and the colloquium took place in the MeTeOr project house in the Erfenschlag part of Chemnitz University of Technology.

25.10.2023 Events of the Professorship
On 20 October 2023, Dr Haneen Daoud presented the New Materials Bayreuth NMB research facility and the research and transfer topics currently being worked on there as part of the IWW seminar. She was accompanied by Prof Dr Uwe Glatzel, Head of the Chair of Metallic Materials at the University of Bayreuth and Head of the Metals Division at NMB, as well as two other research assistants.

24.10.2023 Events of the Professorship
From 13.09.2023-15.09.2023, seven scientists from the WOT professorship took part in the ZVO Surface Days to present their current research results to an interested specialist audience from industry and science.

24.10.2023 Personnel of the professorship
Dr Rico Drehmann, senior engineer at the Chair of Materials and Surface Technology, has been awarded the Saxon University Didactics Certificate. The aim of the certificate programme is to expand the individual teaching skills of lecturers and thus continuously improve academic teaching at Saxon universities.

12.10.2023 Events of the Professorship
On 27 September 2023, the employees of the WOT professorship were able to experience a first-class excursion. We spent three hours at Sachsen Guss GmbH and learnt a lot about the special features, outstanding properties and potentials of modern cast iron alloys that still need to be exploited. The tour of the production halls opened the eyes of some of our scientists to what really matters in processes on an industrial production scale.

18.09.2023 International events
From 3 September 2023 to 7 September 2023, four scientists from the WOT professorship had the opportunity to present their current research results at the largest international conference for materials science and technology, FEMS EUROMAT 2023. Together with colleagues from the LWW professorship, they were able to participate in selected contributions from more than 1,000 lectures and 400 poster contributions and network with other researchers from all over the world.

28.07.2023 National events
The 44th Ulm Talk - Forum for Surface Technology - of the German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology (DGO) was dedicated to the topic of "Measurement, Control and Regulation" on 24/25 May 2023. Over the two days of the event, more than 80 participants discussed the future of electroplating technology with regard to digitalisation, automation and the interaction between man and machine.

28.07.2023 Personnel of the professorship
On 27 July 2023, Dr Michael Bussas successfully completed his doctorate at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology. The examinations included the viva voce and a presentation with defence. His dissertation is entitled "Function-oriented production and finishing of thermally sprayed cylinder liners using a white-box testing approach".

28.07.2023 Personnel of the professorship
On 3 July 2023, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerald Wilhelm, Munich University of Applied Sciences, successfully completed his habilitation procedure at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology. The examinations consisted of a lecture with defence and a teaching test. The title of the habilitation thesis is "Analysis and optimisation of MSG deposition welding of ferrous, abrasion-resistant protective coatings".

20.07.2023 Events of the Professorship
This year it was "The same procedure as every year!". Internal and external doctoral students accepted Prof Thomas Lampke's invitation and presented the current status of their doctoral project from 10 July 2023 - 12 July 2023. Currently, 29 young scientists are working towards a doctorate at the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering or a habilitation. As some of them are already close to completion, 17 doctoral candidates were invited to give presentations and take part in discussions. Strengthened by the feedback from their supervisor Prof Lampke and selected experts, the doctoral students can now pursue the next milestones of their doctorate.
