Project on copper coating of cellular wax structures for customised heat exchangers completed
Geometrically defined, cellular hollow structures offer a significantly higher surface/volume ratio compared to conventional plate heat exchangers. They are therefore ideal for efficient heat exchangers and offer advantages such as design flexibility compared to stochastically moulded foams. This enables miniaturisation and weight reduction, but there is currently a lack of economical manufacturing processes. The aim of the CORNET project WaxCelMet is to develop innovative hollow metal structures and manufacturing processes - from the design of flow-optimised structures to implementation using additive manufacturing and wax injection moulding through to electroplating with copper.

How do heat-resistant steels behave in H2/CH4 combustion atmospheres?
Prof Lampke and the team from the WOT professorship are investigating this question together with Prof Krause and his team from the Chair of Gas and Thermal Engineering at TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) in the AiF-IGF project HYMES. On 26 March 2025, both research units met for an initial internal kick-off meeting. The main aim of the project is to generate reliable data for the safe and efficient utilisation of H2 in thermal process plants.
