International Students and Research

There are a range of opportunities for international exchange, both for prospective students from other European or non-European countries and for students of Educational Science and Pedagogy here at the Institute, which we would like to briefly outline here:

Are you from outside Germany and would like to study educational science in Chemnitz?

If you can provide evidence of a high school diploma equivalent to the German high school diploma (Abitur) or have successfully passed an assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) as part of prepraratory course (G-course) for university studies (Studienkolleg), you can enroll in one of the following bachelor's degree program (1. cycle):
  • B.A. in Education/Educational Sciences (6 semester, 180 ECTS) or
  • Major/Minor-Bachelor's degree program (6 semester) with
    • Major subject Education/Educational Sciences (110 ECTS) or 
    • Minor subject Non-Formal Education in Childhood and Adolescence (50 ECTS) or rather
    • Minor subject Adult and further education (50 ECTS)
If you can provide evidence of a bachelor's degree in Education/Educational Sciences you can enroll in our master's degree program (2. cycle):
  • M.A. in Education (four semester)
Please note: The usually language of instruction and teaching is German. That is why you have to prove sufficient German language skills (Certificate of the German Language Examination for University Admission of Foreign Applicants – DSH-2, DSH-3)

Studying abroad or spending a semester studying in another European country

Students and staff in the field of pedagogy or educational science can currently spend a semester abroad at the following European universities through the Institute’s ERASMUS+ partnerships:   

Please register or make the necessary arrangements in good time before the annual deadline (31 March each year) for applying for ERASMUS+ funding. You can also obtain further important and essential information from the  International Office (IO)! Studying abroad or spending a semester abroad in a non-European country

You also have the option of undertaking a study visit to a university outside Europe. At present, the Institute does not have any individual partnerships in this regard, but the University has numerous cooperations agreements and its own funding opportunities (like PROMOS oder DAAD). For further information on this, please contact the IO!

Work placement abroad/internship abroad
A compulsory placement of between 2 and 12 months, which is a requirement of your degree programme in education or educational science, can also be undertaken abroad. his can be arranged through ERASMUS+ or LEONARDO. Please check in good time whether your proposed placement meets the eligibility criteria; we will then be happy to assist you with your application for funding.

Undergratuated and PhD students and lecturers from other European and non-European universities are welcome to undertake a study visit at our institute. If you are interested in spending a semester studying (students) or undertaking a teaching and research placement (staff) at our institute as part of the ERASMUS+ and other exchange programmes, please feel free to use as a first step the following contact details:
