On 20 and 21 April 2026, the junior members of the Scientific Working Group of University Professors of Materials Engineering (WAW) met at the Chair of Materials Science and Materials Testing at the University of Siegen. The WOT professorship was of course represented.
16.04.2026 Events of the Professorship
Hydrogen continues to gain in importance as part of the energy transition and sustainable technologies. At the same time, it poses new challenges for materials and technical systems. Current research topics at the WOT professorship are concerned with the development and long-term behaviour of bipolar plates in fuel cells and the effect of hydrogen on system components in thermal engineering systems. Against this background, the university internship served to deepen and expand knowledge in a key future topic.
13.04.2026 Personnel of the professorship
Since 1 April 2026, Dr Markus Härtel, research associate at the Chair of WOT, has been a member of the Advisory Board of the renowned International Journal of Plasticity (Impact Factor 12.8). The appointment was made by the Editor-in-Chief Akhtar Khan and recognises Härtel's long-standing commitment to quality assurance in the international research community.
10.04.2026 Events of the Professorship
The International Thermal Spray Conference ITSC2026 took place in Bangkok from 18 to 20 March 2026. For many years, the Chair of WOT has not only been a participant in the conference, but has also been actively involved in its organisation. Prof. Dr Thomas Lampke and Dr Thomas Grund are members of the DVS programme committee and play a key role in ensuring the high quality and relevance of the presentations.

Once again this year, the WOT professorship attended the annual conference of GAMM, the Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. From 16 to 20 March, an impressive overview of current developments in applied mathematics, mechanics and materials engineering was presented to 1,000 participants in over 800 specialist lectures at this year's venue, the University of Stuttgart.
26.03.2026 Events of the Professorship
On 25 February 2026, a JMatPro training course was held on the premises of the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering (WOT) at Chemnitz University of Technology. The aim of the training was to improve the handling of the JMatPro software and to gain in-depth insights into the various functions. In addition, participants were able to discuss their own examples and problems.
10.03.2026 Activities of the professorship
For the fourth time, InnoMat IWW e.V. is providing a Germany Scholarship for young scientists and engineers at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology. The scholarship is awarded to outstanding students on the faculty's degree programmes.
05.03.2026 Projects of the professorship
Together with SITEC Industrietechnologie GmbH and CMMC GmbH, the Chair of Materials and Surface Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology is starting an ERDF joint project funded by the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) entitled "AlVa Laser mOb - Aluminium-based composite powder application by means of laser cladding on simple metallic surfaces", which aims to develop novel aluminium matrix composite (AMC) materials for laser cladding.
05.03.2026 Projects of the professorship
The Chair of Materials and Surface Technology is conducting research into hydrogen technologies with the Fraunhofer Institute for Forming Technology (IWU Chemnitz) in a joint project that was successfully funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
03.03.2026 Projects of the professorship
The BMWE-funded joint project "R3skaling - Resource optimisation for steel and copper materials along the rolling process chain by modelling scaling and descaling" was launched on 19.02.2026 with a joint event of all consortium members. The WOT professorship is coordinating the project.
