Institute Colloquium – IGCT-Based Multilevel Converter

The Institute of Electrical Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology invites you to the institute colloquium on 30 June 2025. The speaker is Felix Kirchhoff, Senior R&D Engineer at Hitachi Energy in Turgi, Switzerland and alumnus of Chemnitz University of Technology.

The lecture, titled "IGCT-Based Modular Multilevel Converter for High-Power Applications", will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Room C10.112 (formerly 2/N112) in the central lecture hall building (Orangerie, Reichenhainer Straße 90). Directions can be found via the Campus Map.

Thanks to their high current interruption capability and low losses, IGCTs are particularly suitable for modular multilevel converters in the >30 MVA power range. Hitachi Energy develops such converters for high-power applications including railway power supply, static reactive power compensation, and pumped-storage power plants.

The colloquium is moderated by Prof. Dr. Josef Lutz and Dr. Jörg Franke. Everyone interested is warmly welcome!
