Reference management with Zotero

Main topics

  • Free software for the administration of bibliographic data and full texts of literature, which is needed e.g. for final theses or for building up your own source collection.
  • Literature references can be imported from databases/catalogs as well as entered manually, existing full text files are assigned.
  • The references are searchable, literature lists in various formats can be output.
  • Zotero is available for the operating systems Windows, Mac and Linux and is already installed on the library PCs.
  • When using private laptops: Firefox or Google Chrome are required as browser!
  • The software is supplemented by a location-independent web interface.

Remark

During the course, students can use their own laptops or the PCs in the classroom.
Prerequistite: a valid user account from University Computing Centre or a valid library user card

All participants must register (free of charge) with Zotero before the course.

Reference management with Citavi

Main topics

  • Licensed literature management program, for collecting and managing literature, citations and assignments, license available via URZ for university members (URZ → Services → Software procurement → Citavi).
  • Literature citations can be imported from databases/catalogs from the search as well as entered manually, existing full text files can be assigned.
  • Link to Word, quick insertion of citations and source references.
  • Operating system: Windows, on Mac via a web version (more limited functions) or via a virtual machine (full functions).
