Welcome to international students esp. for our MA English

This page is for regular international students (esp. those who want to join our international 2-year MA programme) on studying English@Chemnitz - exchange students who come only for 1 or 2 semesters from our partner universities find information here.

Prospective international students have to apply for university studies at Chemnitz through "uni-assist" (www.uni-assist.de). Uni-assist is a central certification office which is responsible for checking the documents of international applications on university studies in Germany. If your application is complete and meets all requirements, uni-assist will inform you and will forward your application to TUC.

Please do not send application documents to Technische Universität Chemnitz directly.

1) For information regarding the study courses please visit:
https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/international/incoming/studiengaenge/studiengaenge.php.en

2) Further necessary information regarding the entry requirements and application documents you will find at:
https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/studentenservice/stusek/auslbachmast.php.en

3) Please submit your complete application documents to:
https://www.uni-assist.de/online/?lang=en

Technische Universität Chemnitz
c/o uni-assist e.V.
11507 Berlin
Germany

Please use the online application portal at their Homepage and after that you have to send the required documents to them (attested copies) by post.

5) Application deadline: July 15th

We would recommend you to apply until May 30th for master programs which will be starting in winter semester. Thereby you have a better chance to receive the admission letter in time for you visa application, in case your application will be accepted from the responsible examination board.

6) Living expenses:

How much students will spend during their studies differs and cannot be predicted as it depends on each student's requirements and standards. However, I can give you a small overview of costs of accommodation and food:

General information on living in Germany can be found on the DAAD website: https://www.daad.de/deutschland/in-deutschland/en/

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Chemnitz soon.

There are no tuition fees, students only pay a semester fee (currently 242,65 Euro) for the Studentenwerk, which include the right to use their facilities (like subsidised food in the students' restaurant = Mensa) and the semester ticket, unlimited travel in the whole of Saxony - so it is extremely good value for exchange students who want to explore the region.

Upon arrival, the following institutions should be contacted (details here):

  1. International Office - IUZ (Foreign Students' Office)
  2. Students' Service Office (Registrar) - Studentensekretariat
  3. Residents' Registration Office - Einwohnermeldeamt
  4. Foreigners' Registration Office/Immigration - Ausländerbehörde
  5. ECTS Coordinators (Prof. Schmied)

M.A./Ph.D. study visits for M.A. students
Since international interships/placements/study visits are more and more important, we hope to establish direct exchanges with our partners on the MA and PhD levels, esp. in the research areas of academic writing, national Englishes/usage norms, and e-learning. We will always try to send you the invitation you need for funding (e.g. from the DAAD) and can usually provide a modern office desk on our department floor, so that our guests are fully integrated into life in the department.
Joint teaching and e-learning:
We are always open for suggestions in joint teaching and e-learning, esp. for applications for EU funding. Please send us your proposals.
