The now22nd Materials Technology Colloquium (WTK)which was held as an online-live event on 24 March 2021, also shone in digital form with interesting scientific contributions.

Highlights of the two-part event with a total of28 specialist lectures on materials and surface technology and materials sciencewere thePlenary lectures on the topic of Industry 4.0. Professor Detlev Zühlke, main initiator of the SmartFactory KL e. V. technology initiative and now retired, addressed the necessary framework conditions to transform an industrial revolution from vision to reality.

Dr Franziska Bocklisch, Acting Head of the Chair of General Psychology and Human Factors at Chemnitz University of Technology, emphasised the importance of transdisciplinary cooperation, which ensures the successful implementation of theHuman-technology cooperationenables.

The focus on theMaterials scienceProfessor Andreas Undisz, head of the Electron Microscopy and Microstructure Analysis professorship at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering since 1 November 2020, spoke about the possibilities of transmission electron microscopy methods for analysing material surfaces.
