11th Materials Technology Colloquium Chemnitz (01./02.10. 2008)

The 11th Colloquium on Materials Technology in Chemnitz continued the now traditional scientific and technical days on materials, material composites and their surfaces. This year's focus was on surface technology, composites and lightweight construction. This year, too, the event was opened by Prof. Wielage. In addition to numerous national and international participants and guests of honour, Prof. Matthes, Rector of our University, Prof. Steffens, Honorary Doctor of our Faculty, and Prof. Reinhold from Audi AG were among those welcomed. Prof. Pawlowski from the University of Villeneuve in France travelled from abroad The papers presented, representing current results from research and industrial practice, gave an overview of the developments in materials technology of the past year in the following specialist areas
  • Thermal spraying
  • Galvanic metal deposition
  • Anodise
  • Sol-gel processes
  • Powder coating
  • Composites and lightweight construction
  • Electrode and contact materials
  • PVD coating
  • Deposition welding and
  • Fügen
The topics were introduced by overview lectures. For example, Prof. Wesling spoke about „Deposition welding of novel materials“, Prof. Schultheiß about „Plasma activated vapour deposition– a high rate process for coating large surfaces“, Dr. Höhle on „Thermal spraying in competition with other technologies“ and Dr. Zielonka spoke on „Electrochemical processes for the production of micro- and nanostructured materials“. The parallel industrial exhibition was also very popular.
