Application for the admission to the doctoral procedure
When & why?
The entire doctoral procedure is initially based on the application for admission – this can be submitted at different times. However, submitting the application early has some advantages:
- As part of the admission process, the doctoral committee will check whether you fulfil the formal requirements for admission to doctoral studies. The earlier you submit your application, the sooner you can be sure that there are no formal obstacles to the successful completion of your project.
- The doctoral committee may attach conditions to your admission, which you must have fulfilled by the time you submit your dissertation. This is possible, for example, if your doctoral subject and the subject you have previously studied are not identical. The earlier you apply for admission, the more time you have to fulfil these requirements.
- Admission to doctoral studies at the faculty is a prerequisite for enrolment as a doctoral student [DE]. Upon enrolment, you will receive all the benefits that come with student status, including not only practical benefits such as the Deutschland-Semesterticket and discounted cafeteria prices, but also access to a wide range of other university services, the services of the University Library and the doctoral-related continuing education courses offered by the Centre for Junior Scientists.
