The doctoral procedure

Beyond the content-related academic work, the doctoral procedure is divided into several steps, which are associated with at least two applications to the doctoral committee. These applications must submitted by the doctoral candidates themselves in consultation with their supervisor. The legal framework is defined in the current doctoral degree regulations. The two minimum applications to be submitted are

In addition, further applications can or must be submitted depending on the individual situation:

  • Application to change the doctoral topic
  • Application to change the doctoral subject
  • Application for early use of the title according to § 20, para. 4 Doctoral regulations
  • Application for extension of the publication deadline according to § 19, para. 4 Doctoral regulations

Enrolment as doctoral student

Doctoral candidates who wish to extend their enrolment as doctoral students after the first three years have expired must also submit an application (informally) to the Chair of the Doctoral Committee.
