Wismut Network Chemnitz 2025

This special network brings together various institutions that are connected to Wismut in different ways: the Wismut-Stiftung gGmbH, the Saxon State Archive, the Stasi document archive, the smac, the Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e.V. and the city guide Mrs Höfer, but also the university library, as the ‘Alte Aktienspinnerei’ was once home to the Wismut department stores' “Glück auf”, whose neon sign can still be seen today in the industrial museum. A series of events will draw attention to the formative importance of Wismut for the city and the region, including the premiere of an opera performance of the novel ‘Rummelplatz’ by the Karl-Marx-Stadt writer Werner Bräunig, accompanied by a conference on the topic taking place in the university library, as well as a travelling exhibition ‘Faces of Wismut’, which will be on display in the university library in September/October 2025. The series will kick off in the University Library's IdeenReich on 12 March 2025.
