Welcome at the Institute for Media Research

The Institute for Media Research (IMF) at Chemnitz University of Technology is an interdisciplinary hub for thinking, research, and teaching on digital media and their significance for society, communication, and education.

Our work combines academic curiosity with societal relevance: we examine how people use media – in everyday life, at work, and in learning contexts. We analyze the dynamics of digital public spheres, the effects of media content, and the design of innovative communication formats.

With a diverse range of courses in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, we prepare students for a rapidly changing media landscape. Research and teaching are closely intertwined: from the initial idea to collaborative projects, the IMF fosters a research-driven, practice-oriented culture of study.
