Across Research & Teaching Networking 2026

Funding for visits between TU Chemnitz and Across partner universities

Application deadline: rolling call until 30 November 2026 (or until the available budget has been exhausted)

Background and purpose

Across – European University for Cross-Border Knowledge Sharing connects universities, researchers, students and external actors across European border regions. This call supports research and teaching visits between TU Chemnitz and the partner universities of the Across Alliance. It enables researchers and academic coordinators to develop and strengthen cooperation with a clear perspective beyond the individual visit.

Eligibility

  • Applications may be submitted by researchers from doctoral candidates to professors and by coordinators responsible for academic or research areas who are affiliated with TU Chemnitz or another Across partner university. The Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is included as an associated partner.
  • Incoming visits to Chemnitz and outgoing visits from Chemnitz are eligible. Visits between two other Across universities are outside the scope of this call.

Eligible activities

The visit must pursue a defined research or teaching cooperation project with the host university. Each application must indicate one primary focus – research or teaching; a visit may combine both.

  • Research: research activities, including joint research work.
  • Teaching: teaching cooperation, preferably focusing on microcredentials; teaching integrated into existing curricula is also eligible.

Conference participation, attendance at summer schools without an active contribution and work on joint funding applications are not eligible.

Financial support

The grant covers eligible travel and accommodation costs and the applicable daily allowances. Funding for the stay is limited to three full daily allowances plus three hotel reference rates for the destination; the rates for each destination are shown in the tables below.

Applicants and hosts may choose the duration required for their activities. A visit may be shorter or longer than three days; its duration does not increase the maximum amount. Reimbursement is based on the actual eligible costs and the daily allowances due in accordance with the Saxon Travel Expenses Act and the travel expense regulations of TU Chemnitz, including adjustments for arrival and departure days and meals provided.

Costs exceeding the award must be covered from other sources. Double funding of the same expenses is not permitted; other funding must be disclosed in the application. The funding decision does not replace any required travel approval, and no financial commitment may be made before written approval.

Travel costs are covered for all destinations up to EUR 309 (standard travel) or EUR 417 (green travel, i.e. low-emission transport such as rail or bus for the main part of the journey).

Evaluation criteria

Applications are assessed on a rolling basis by the Across Team Chemnitz at the International Office based on:

  • Quality and relevance: clear objectives, academic value and a convincing cooperation idea within Across.
  • Preparation and feasibility: activities agreed with the host, a realistic schedule and a plausible budget.
  • Lasting impact: expected results, benefits for both institutions and credible next steps for cooperation over the medium term.
  • Contribution to joint teaching (teaching-focused applications only): with particular attention to microcredentials.

Applications meeting the required quality standard are considered in the order of receipt, subject to the availability of funding. The programme aims to allocate approximately half of the budget each to teaching-oriented and research-oriented mobilities. This indicative allocation may be adjusted in response to demand.

Application procedure

Applications must be submitted by the travelling person using the official application form, completed in English. Upload the signed form in PDF format together with an invitation from the host university and any supplementary cost information via TUCcloud. Applicants who are not professors must obtain the countersignature of their responsible professor at their home university.

Only complete applications will be considered.
