Open Science Award

Open Science stands for a fundamental opening of scientific processes towards more transparency, participation, reproducibility, collaboration and social responsibility. In order to make persons, teams, projects and initiatives visible that are committed to open science in all its facets, the University Library presents three Open Science Awards.

Who can apply?

Honoured are persons, teams, projects and initiatives that have exemplarily and actively promoted Open Science at Chemnitz University of Technology in 2024/25. Early career researchers in particular are encouraged to apply.

Which activities are honoured?

Based on the recommendation on Open Science of the UNESCO Commission and the EU's Open Science Policy, the Open Science Award is presented for the following activities.

  • special publishing activities (Open Access Gold, Green, Diamond)
  • activities in the open provision of research data, software or Open Educational Resources
  • projects in the field of Citizen Science
  • special activities in the area of Preregistration of research activities
  • activities in the area of Open Review

Who is on the jury?

The winners will be selected by the Open Science Team of the University Library, the Director of the University Library, Mrs Malz and the Dean of the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, Professor Dr. Mayerl.

When are the awards presented?

The award ceremony will take place on October 23, 2025 as the highlight of our joint event "Wem gehört das Wissen?" in the University Library. In the programme, the award winners will have the opportunity to briefly present their Open Science activities.

What is the application deadline?

Applications can be submitted until August 11, 2025.

How does the third-party nomination process work?

For a third-party nomination, please send an email to os@... stating the name of the person, team, project or initiative you would like to nominate. After receiving the third-party nomination, the jury will ask the nominees whether they would like to submit a self-application. The nominees will be given sufficient time to submit a selfnomination.
