Weighting
The objective of academic work generally not consists in writing as much as possible about a topic but in giving an answer to a research question. For this reason, each part of the thematic structure and each sub-point should be logically related to the own research question. However, as not each author dealing with the topic and not each publication resp. information has the same importance for answering the own research question, it may be useful to weight those by other criteria.
Weighting of sources by indicators
The author of a source may f.e. be weighted by the h-index. With regard to articles in journals the Journal Impact Factor
may be used. However, those are only indications for the weighting. The quality of a source should always be assessed by you yourself.
Weighting of added-value of information
By personal weighting of the added-value of information in relation to the topic, an order for argumentation may be determined. A consistent structuring of the different information contributes to the enhancement of the presentation of knowledge.
Primacy-Recency-Effect
Within the structuring of knowledge, you may also make use of the Primacy-Recency-Effect. According to that, information mentioned at first or at last are remembered better. Due to this effect, the order of compilation of information has an influence on its subsequent perception.
