HZwo: HyStPOWER10 - Hydorgen based Stationary POWER modules 10 kW
Present Research Project
The utilization of excess electricity capacity through electrolysis (EL) and fuel cell (FC) technology is becoming increasingly important in light of the growing volatility in the electricity markets and the associated price fluctuations. The aim of this project is therefore to develop, construct, and test the operation of a technically combined, integrated system concept for decentralized hydrogen production – based on electrolysis and hydrogen storage – and reconversion to electricity – based on fuel cells – as a research prototype within the framework of collaborative industrial research (combined electrolysis-fuel cell unit (EBE) with an electrical output of 10 kW). The objective is the technically and economically advantageous use of temporary surplus capacity from renewable energy plants at industrial companies, as well as the mitigation of operating costs during peak demand periods and simultaneously above-average electricity prices caused by the increasing price volatility in the day-ahead market. The optimization of the process engineering structure of the hydrogen generation and reconversion unit through the use of synergies forms the core research area of this project, representing an innovation in the state of science and technology, offering a direct market advantage and, if successful, leading to more cost-effective product structures for the partners.
