HZwo:G3BIP - Embossed bipolar plate suitable for mass production
Present Research Project

953
The HZwo:G³BIP project is an industrial research initiative involving medium-sized companies and a research institution. The goal is to develop a novel, mass-production-ready bipolar plate made of graphite compound. The semi-finished components will be manufactured using an extrusion process and then assembled into a finished bipolar plate using a progressive die process.

Project duration: December 1, 2022 – August 31, 2025

Project focus areas:

  • Development and characterization of unstructured half-plates
  • Automated quality control of the unstructured bipolar plate semi-finished products and the assembled bipolar plates
  • Cleaning and post-processing of the structured bipolar plate semi-finished products
  • Assembling the structured half-plates into bipolar plates, including leak testing
  • Investigation and iterative optimization of the material composition
  • System integration into an overall layout and integration into a holistic virtual production process
