Located in the northern foothills of the Ore Mountains, Chemnitz with its population close to 250,000 people is the third largest city of the Free State of Saxony and offers all aspects of modern life in a medium sized city. In 2025, Chemnitz held the title European Capital of Culture (tohether with Nova Gorica in Slovenia). Chemnitz can be reached by train from various directions. The closest airports are located in Leipzig (LEJ, distance approx. 110 km) and Dresden (DRS, distance approx. 80 km). Both airports connect also to major interational hubs.
