The University of Vigo was founded in 1990 after splitting from the University of Santiago de Compostela. This modern and innovative institution is spread across three campuses and offers 56 degree programs. These campuses are located in the three main cities of southern Galicia: Ourense, Pontevedra, and Vigo. The Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication, which includes the field of political science, is located on the Pontevedra campus, which is traversed by the Lérez River and surrounded by the Illa das Esculturas.
The University of Vigo collaborates with over 400 universities from 38 different countries. It is also well-known for its leading-edge research, regularly receiving a significant portion of Spain’s research funding. Moreover, it has strong partnerships with regional companies.
For international students, the university offers specialized Spanish courses and places great emphasis on cultural life. Additionally, community engagement is strongly encouraged. Both the university and various collaborating organizations offer a wide range of programs in this area.

he Port of Vigo is one of the most important natural harbors in the world and is home to the country’s largest fishing fleet. A visit to the old fishing district of Berbés is a must, with its picturesque old town backdrop and the bustling fish market that takes place regularly.
Another must-see in the area is the Islas Cíes, a popular recreational area known for its stunning beaches and protected nature reserves.
Also worth visiting is the Castillo del Castro, an ancient fortress in Vigo offering great views of the city and harbor.
