Awareness at the English Department

As a department, we are committed to creating a diversity-sensitive classroom environment free of discrimination and marginalization, in which we remain aware and reflective of the diversity of our student body. To that end, we have devised an awareness concept, including Classroom Awareness and Inclusive Teaching Guidelines. These guidelines are distributed to our teaching staff and students and updated annually. A departmental contact point that offers an open door, mediation and support is also available, should any issues occur.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you feel that there is room for improvement or if there are issues regarding the conduct of faculty or your fellow students within the classroom. Reach out to one or both of the contact persons below, who will handle your concern confidentially. If you wish to remain anonymous, you could use the department’s physical mailbox in our institute’s hallway. In that case though, we will unfortunately not be able to respond to you.

We do everything we can to make your experience with us a positive one. Beyond the university, there are also institutions that can assist you, e.g. if you should experience discrimination outside campus. In such cases, please get in touch with the Antidiskriminierungsbüro Sachsen e.V. for help and further information on this topic (https://www.adb-sachsen.de/de/standorte/chemnitz; 0371/433 084 61).
