AirCarbonIII

AirCarbon III

Duration: 10/2018 - 09/2021

Funding: Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy

Funding Framework: Aviation Research Program

Motivation:

The evaluation of different technologies for preform and semi-finished fiber production as well as the testing and optimization of new manufacturing approaches, is a significant contribution to the long-term preservation of the German aviation industry. Based on economic (cost), mechanical (technical) and ecological parameters, decision models for the optimal and efficient use of production technologies for preforms and semifinished fiber products. Applying these methods to Near-Net-Shape (NNS) technology for dry semi-finished fiber, the understanding of interactions for this new technology is being developed and new potentials for this technology are being developed. Thus, essential specifications, interfaces and design parameters of the aviation industry can be realized and optimized.

Project goals:

  • Adaptation and optimization of Near-Net-Shape fiber laying technology to the requirements of the aviation industry with the following emphases:
    • Determination of the potential for NNS semi-finished fiber products
    • Manufacture of dry preforms for a bizarre component typical of the aviation industry
  • Implementation of machine adjustments and optimizations for the efficient production of NNS-preforms
