WOT visits the BMW plant in Leipzig
On 10 September 2019, the employees of the WOT professorship visited the BMW plant in Leipzig. The focus was on material and surface technology topics.
The customised tour through various areas of production was made possible by the personal commitment of Thomas Priemuth, Head of Production Systems, and Dr Rebekka Büttner, who recently completed her doctorate at the Chair of Factory Planning and Factory Operation at Chemnitz University of Technology. Particularly interesting were the in-depth insights into the production of the CFRP lightweight body, the joining technologies adapted to different steel grades and the paint line. In addition, questions were discussed in expert talks on site and short technical discussions were held. The visit served as a forum for technical dialogue and marked the start of a more in-depth cooperation between Chemnitz University of Technology and the BMW plant in Leipzig. The WOT visitor group would like to thank the organisers and discussion partners, in particular Hans-Peter Kemser, Plant Manager at BMW Leipzig, for their kindness and warm welcome.
