Summer School on "Simulation in Materials and Surface Engineering"
From 29 September to 2 October, our international Summer School on "Simulation in Materials and Surface Engineering" took place for the second time. The programme included the basic determination of material and process characteristics, the simulation of heat conduction, process simulations in electroplating, the modelling and simulation of mechanical strength as well as estimations of material fatigue and service life based on simulations.
During the summer school, familiar and new knowledge was summarised in lectures. With this knowledge, the students then went into the laboratory to determine the material data required for simulations. In the second half of the day, the students gained practical experience in simulation with Matlab, Comsol and Abaqus and pursued an application-orientated approach that led from theory to laboratory to simulation.
We would like to thank the students who successfully and enthusiastically dedicated themselves to the topics, as well as the summer school organisation team. We wish all participants every success in their future studies.
