IWW takes over animal sponsorship
The IWW professorships will take over an animal sponsorship at the Chemnitz Zoo with the new year 2022. The initiators were the last of our PhD students who suggested a sustainable use of internal gift collections. The sponsor animal is therefore a steppe fox from now on.
According to Wikipedia, „[t]he steppe fox (Vulpes corsac) or corsak […] is a species of true fox (Vulpini) within the dogs (Canidae). It is distributed over a large area from the lower Volga in the European part of Russia through western and central Asia to Manchuria, Tibet and northern Iran. Its habitat is mainly steppes and semi-deserts to deserts. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steppenfuchs )
The IWW uses the fox of the Chemnitz Zoo as a symbol for the intellectual abilities of its employees. Wikipedia also speaks of the „cunning[n] fox“, which „can be found in the legends of those parts of the world where Vulpes, the fox, is at home“. The cunning and partly deceitful character traits that are said to be associated with him are not mentioned here…
