Awards at this year's Surface Days
Part 1: Promoting young talent and the Galvano Prize
With 515 participants, almost 90 specialist presentations, stands from 65 exhibitors and overwhelmingly positive feedback, the ZVO annual congress more than fulfilled expectations. As the largest event for electroplating and surface technology in Germany, the congress once again took place - as usual and as proven - in the Congress Centre Leipzig.
DGO Young Talent Award 2022
At the opening event of this year's Surface Technology Days, the Chair of Materials and Surface Technology (WOT) had two pleasing items on the programme. One of these was the presentation of the Young Talent Award. The Young Talent Award 2022, presented by the German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology e.V. (DGO), was awarded to two projects this year. One of the winners is Dr Johannes Näther from Mittweida University of Applied Sciences for his dissertation on the topic of „Electroplating iridium from hexabromoiridate electrolytes“. The thesis was written as part of a co-operative doctorate between the Chair of WOT at Chemnitz University of Technology and Mittweida University of Applied Sciences.
Leipzig Electroplating Prize
Another very pleasing point, after the coronavirus-related delay, is the recognition and presentation of the certificate and medal of the Leipzig Electroplating Prize 2021. The Leipzig Electroplating Prize, awarded by the DGO, honours companies and research institutions that have been able to transfer innovative research and development results into practice. In 2021, the project consortium under the scientific leadership of the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering was awarded the prestigious Leipzig Electroplating Prize for its work on „process and electrolyte development using a fully automated, robot-assisted electroplating system“. Further information – also on the project content – can be found in the official press release from Chemnitz University of Technology at https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/tu/pressestelle/aktuell/10574 .
