IWW takes over animal sponsorship

In the new year 2022, the IWW professorships will take over an animal sponsorship at Chemnitz Zoo. The initiators were the last of our doctoral students who suggested a sustainable use of internal gift collections. The sponsored animal is therefore now a steppe fox.

According to Wikipedia, „[t]he steppe fox (Vulpes corsac) or corsac […] is a species of true fox (Vulpini) within the canine family (Canidae). It is distributed over a large area from the lower Volga in the European part of Russia across western and central Asia to Manchuria, Tibet and northern Iran. Its habitat is mainly steppes and semi-deserts to deserts “ ( https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steppenfuchs )

For the IWW, the Chemnitz zoo's fox symbolises the intellectual abilities of its employees. Wikipedia also refers to the „cunning fox“, which „can be found in the legends of those parts of the world where Vulpes, the fox, is at home“. At this point, we will ignore the cunning and sometimes deceitful character traits he is said to possess…
