3rd IWW Colloquium and General Meeting InnoMat IWW e.V.
On 11 November 2021, the 3rd IWW Colloquium took place in a purely online format due to the current situation. The audience, which consisted of students, employees and former colleagues of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (IWW), enjoyed warm greetings and interesting and entertaining presentations.
The digital greetings were addressed to the audience by Mr Werner Krömmer (Chairman of the Gesellschaft Thermisches Spritzen e.V., GTS), Mr Rainer Venz (Past President of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Galvano- und Oberflächentechnik e.V., DGO) and Dr Roland Boecking (Managing Director of the Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V., DVS), and in particular to the Chairman of the Innomat IWW e.V. and Professor Emeritus of the IWW, Prof Bernhard Wielage.
Prof Guntram Wagner, Director of the IWW, then informed the audience about various news from the institute over the past year. This was followed by two specialist presentations that took the audience on an exciting journey. Dr Frank Schreiber from DURUM Verschleißschutz GmbH inspired the audience with his presentation on the „salvage of submarines and large ships using deposition-welded saws“ with an excursion into the underwater world. Prof Sebastian Weis from the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau took the audience on an exciting journey through time from soldering in ancient times to soldering in virtual reality in his lecture „Soldering - A process with a great past and an even greater future“.
In the run-up to the IWW colloquium, the general meeting of the association „Innovative Materials, Institute of Materials Science and Engineering“ (InnoMat IWW e.V.) also took place digitally. This association is an alumni network of the IWW, which is intended to remain in contact with (former) employees even after they have left the institute and to promote further exchange and cooperation.
