The campus of the Chemnitz University of Technology offers many opportunities to volunteer in student initiatives. This does not only help you to meet new friends or learn something new but also to get the chance to improve your German language.

From Club der Kulturen to TUCracing to VWI - many initiatives were established in the past years. Below you will find a selection of opportunities to get involved as a volunteer. Take a look - maybe there is something for you :)

Amnesty International

Amnesty is a worldwide human rights organization working to uphold the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Chemnitz city group meets several times a month. Participation is free of charge, altough membership costs € 30.

ArbeiterKind Chemnitz

ArbeiterKind is an initiative to support anyone who is the first person in their family to study. They offer many useful resources about learning and studying through their online portal. There is an open meeting once a month.

Broterwerb

Broterwerb is an initiative for career orientation in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences at Chemnitz University of Technology. They promote the dialog between students, the university, and companies. You are welcome to contact them.

Club der Kulturen

The whole world in one club - that is the motto of this student club. Pubs, parties, info evenings, or special theme evenings take place here regularly.

The Collegium Musicum is a classical orchestra consisting of students and employees of the Chemnitz University of Technology. Rehearsals take place once a week.

The film club is a small cinema on the university campus Reichenhainer Straße that regularly shows movies twice a week.

Foodsharing Chemnitz

Foodsharing Chemnitz is an initiative against food waste. They save food that would otherwise end up in the trash. You can volunteer with this initiative by helping to keep the "Fairteiler" clean.

Fortis Saxonia

Fortis Saxonia is a student research project in the field of energy-saving and efficient mobility with a focus on hydrogen propulsion. Everyone interested and/or experienced can participate.

The student club FPM is the oldest student club on campus. Usually, they open several times a week and offer drinks as well as music and theme parties.

IEEE is the biggest community of technical experts worldwide. Their main focus is the technical and educational advancement of electrical and electronical engineering, telecommunication, and related fields. The student branch in Chemnitz has created a presentation (PDF) to introduce itself.

ICC is the organization of Indian students and employees at TU Chemnitz. They advocate for the well-being of Indian students and organize cultural events. They also offer help and advice.

ROCK YOUR LIFE! is a network of student volunteers who work to promote educational equity. They offer a mentoring program designed to help students recognize and realize their own potential.

T.U.C. Racing e.V.

The T.U.C. Racing e.V. forms the first Formula Student Team in Chemnitz since 2015. They design and construct their own racing cars and regularly participate in European Formula Student events. Membership costs €12/semester for students.

Students for Future

Student for Future is a subgroup of the Fridays for Future movement. It consists of students from TU Chemnitz who are committed to climate justice.

TU Big Band

The TU Big Band is a jazz orchestra consisting mostly of students and employees of TU Chemnitz, but also other people in Chemnitz and surroundings can participate. They mainly perfom on official occasions of the university. Music enthusiasts are invited! Once a week are rehearsals.

VDE Hochschulgruppe

The VDE is one of the largest technology organizations in Europe. The University Group aims to offer all engineering students at TU Chemnitz an additiona program to deepen their technical knowledge and social skills. They participate in events at trade fairs, research institutions and industry as well as congresses.

The Theater group Turmbau 62 is a student theater group. They regularly create productions of well-known as well as self-written plays and also run an improvisational theater group. All those who love and are interested in theater are invited to join!

The University Choir of TU Chemnitz is composed of music-loving students and employees of the university as well as other members from all over Chemnitz. Their repertoire spans various genres and eras. They perform at events as well as competitions.

The university group of the Association of German Industrial Engineers is an association of students of Wirtschafts-ingenieurwesen. Together they organize events, parties and workshops and help each other.
