Councelling: "On all Aspects of Studying"
Studying at a university is often associated with numerous challenges, uncertainties and the need to make difficult decisions. In order to support you in the best possible way, the following is an overview of a wide range of counseling services. The contact persons mentioned are happy to offer competent support and assistance in their field of activity.
A list of further counseling services is available from the Student Services [de].
Questions about Studying
Students can contact the Central Examination Office at any time if they have questions or problems regarding the registration for examinations or the examination process or the receipt of certificates of achievement:
For questions concerning the study program, for example the organization of studies, the choice of majors as well as career planning, the Subject Advisory Service offers comprehensive support.
Student Initiatives (JCF, StuRa, FSR)
The JungeChemieForum, JCF for short, is the organization of the young members of the German Chemical Society (GDCh). The JCF aims to offer young chemists, i.e. students or trainees, a platform for networking. For this purpose, the JCF organizes numerous events, such as the annual working group presentation, exciting lectures or industrial excursions. If you are interested in participating in the organization of projects or if you want to get to know the members of the JCF personally, you are cordially invited to attend their meetings. Just write an informal mail or talk to the members.
The Student Council, StuRa for short, represents the interests of all members of the student body and is the highest decision-making body. Like all other bodies of the student body, the StuRa is composed of elected student members. The central task of the StuRa is to represent the social and cultural interests of the students within the university in order to make university life colorful and diverse. In addition, the StuRa is responsible for shaping university policy at the TU Chemnitz as well as state-wide. In addition to cultural and university policy, the StuRa also takes care of social issues, for example by promoting student mobility in the form of the student annual ticket. The StuRa is also a competent contact for questions about exam advising, BAföG, housing subsidies, and social counseling, as well as for general questions about teaching and studying (e.g. about changing courses of study, recognition of academic achievements, problems with study and exam regulations).
The Student Representative Council, FSR for short, is composed of elected student members of the Chemistry and Advanced Functional Material programs. Its main task is to represent the students' interests - it is your first point of contact for all kinds of technical problems and questions concerning your studies. In addition, the FSR organizes numerous events where you can network with fellow students from other semesters, staff and lecturers - including the O-Phase, the summer event, the Feuerzangenbowle at Christmas time and various other sports and barbecue events. The FSR has also set up mailing lists for the targeted transmission of information (e.g. announcements of dates for introductory events, etc.) to all students in a year group. You can subscribe to this list during the O-Phase. Alternatively, you can send an email to the FSR that you want to be added to the mailing list.
If you are interested in participating in the organization of projects or if you want to get to know the members of the FSR personally, you are welcome to attend their meetings.

Financing studies is a major challenge for many students.
If the financial means cannot be raised by oneself or with the help of the parents, benefits according to the Federal Training Assistance Act, better known as BAföG, can be applied for. The contact person for this is the Studentenwerk Chemnitz.
Other options for financing your studies include part-time jobs, scholarships or loans, such as the Studentenwerk loan. The Social Counseling Service of the Studentenwerk offers detailed advice on this:
The German Chemical Society (GDCh) provides about 20 scholarships each year within the framework of the August Wilhelm von Hofmann Foundation especially for chemistry students of the bachelor program of the third or fourth semester. An amount of 300 € is paid out for 12 or 18 months, which is not offset against BAföG benefits.
In case of IT problems or questions concerning the software and hardware offer of the Chemnitz University of Technology, the University Computer Center, URZ for short, offers a wide range of consulting services. First questions can possibly already be answered by a look at the FAQ page of the URZ or will be clarified in the introductory lecture [de] about the services of the URZ (status 2021).
