A Memorable Evening in a Special Atmosphere

Around 1,000 guests enjoyed a rousing evening in the courtyard of the Böttcher Building - Video available

Mild temperatures, delicious food and drink, a programme filled with variety and a great location: for going on three years now, this and more has been a part of the TUCsommernacht offering. This is a special evening that takes place in the enjoyable atmosphere of the Böttcher Building courtyard at Chemnitz University of Technology. Around 1,000 guests got to experience this evening on 23 June 2019.

An extensive musical programme set the tone for the evening. Included in the offerings were an appearance by the TU Big Band, as well as the appearance of the Drummed Boxes. The latter were taking part for the first time this year, and their drum boxes, played with a particular Cajun flair, delighted the audience. Participating as well were artists such as singer/songwriter Knut Kielmann, and Franziska Krötenheerdt and Siyabonga Maqungo from the Chemnitz Opera. They presented classics of musical theatre at a very high level. Ecke Bauer and his band Bauerplay thrilled the crowd with their performance, heating up the courtyard with an array of rock and pop classics.

TUCsommernacht had more than just delicious food and exciting music to offer, however. In his “molecular kitchen”, Prof. Dr. Heinrich Lang, Chair of the Professorship of Inorganic Chemistry, conjured up summer drinks from the chemistry lab. The water literally turned into wine, and the brandy caught fire.

Shortly after midnight, DJ Sebastian Steger took over the controls. The dance floor in the university courtyard bumped with bass and dancing. About 200 guests were still there- hardcore fans who wanted to enjoy the nice evening. And that is exactly what TUCsommernacht is all about – we will see you next year.
