Chemnitz electrical engineer receives award

Prof. Josef Lutz received an international award for outstanding achievements in the field of power electronics

Prof. Josef Lutz, chair of the Professorship Power Electronics and EMC at Chemnitz University of Technology, received the “Outstanding Achievement Award” at the “European Conference on Power Electronics” (EPE’17), that took place in Warsaw from September 12 till 14, 2017. He received the prize for his innovative research with broad industrial implementation in the field of power components, his activities in teaching, and his long-standing support of the EPE conference. The EPE takes place alternately in different European countries, this year over 900 guests came to Warsaw.

In his expression of thanks Lutz used the moment to appeal with regard to the imminent Climate Change Conference in Bonn: “From a technical point of view, enormous savings of Co2 emissions are already possible with the present regenerative and power electronic technologies. The talk, that we would need coal as bridging technology any longer is technically wrong. It is possible to combine modern society with environmental friendly careful treatment.” From the Chemnitz professor’s point of view, the electrical engineers have to actively and increasingly participate in the debate on climate protection.
