City rally, Guided tower tour and Welcome party

Chemnitz University of Technology welcomes its new international students for the winter semester 2011/2012 with a several-days-lasting program

They come from Afghanistan, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic,Estonia, France, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Korea, Luxembourg, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Slovakia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and Vietnam. These are the destinations from which have come more than 180 recently matriculated international students who will begin their studies in the winter semester 2011/2012 at Chemnitz University of Technology.

The beginning of studies is often similar to a hurdle race. And for international students it is frequently even more difficult than for Germans. To face this course the International Office of Chemnitz University of Technology offers a special support program for international students in the first semester. From 4 to 7 October 2011 they will be welcomed at Chemnitz University of Technology and be accompanied during their first steps at the university and the city of Chemnitz. Lecturers and advanced students will answer all questions with regard to studies: they give information concerning the curriculum, they will help with the individual planning of studies and they will explain cryptic abbreviations.

The orientation week begins on Tuesday with a tour around the campus which shall provide a first orientation to the students. The cultural centre DAS TIETZ and the monument of Karl Marx will only be two of the many sights which the international students will visit during the city rally which is organized by students engaged in the buddy program of the International Office. On Wednesday the international students will get important information on all matters regarding studies during an event which will start at 10 am at room N113 in the new lecture hall building Reichenhainer Straße 90. And in the evening, after 5 pm, the social part of the orientation week begins with a tour around the bars of Chemnitz. On Thursday the new international students will have the opportunity to have a look at their new home from above during a guided tour at the tower of the town hall of Chemnitz beginning at 2 pm. The orientation week of this year will end with a Welcome Dinner which shall offer the opportunity to the new students to get to know each other even better. All students at Chemnitz University of Technology who come from abroad are cordially invited to participate at this event. It will begin at 7 pm in the "Club der Kulturen” at Thüringer Weg 3.
