Chemnitz University of Technology Scores in CHE Ranking 2020/21
University strong in Business Administration, Business Administration and Engineering, and Business Information Systems, especially in the category "support at the beginning of studies.”
The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) examined more than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences in its latest university ranking. The results will be published on 5 May 2020 in the new study guide 2020/21 from weekly newspaper Die Zeit and Zeit Campus Online. Every year, one third of the entire range of subjects, which currently comprises 40 subjects, is newly ranked. This year, the Departments of Business Administration, Business Administration and Engineering, and Business Information Systems at Chemnitz University of Technology were also analysed.
Chemnitz University of Technology received very good ratings in these three departments, especially in the category "support at the beginning of studies." The fact that the university scores so well on the entry into studies is not only due to the extensive range of advisory services and information events offered by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, but also to the TU4U study support project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the federal-state programme "Quality Pact for Teaching.” "Together with the faculties, we have developed numerous programmes to help students start their studies, such as orientation weeks, bridge courses for almost all Bachelor's and some Master's degree programmes, the mentoring programme 'Start Smart,' or accompanying learning with tutoring," says project leader Dr. Maria Worf, who emphasises that starting a course of study well is elementary for success. In the latest CHE ranking, Business Information Systems is also in the top group of Master's students in the category "degrees within a reasonable time." And in the Department of Business Administration, Chemnitz University of Technology is also top in the categories "Publications per Professor in Economics" and "Doctorates per Professor."
In terms of their international orientation, Business Administration and Engineering and Business Information Systems are in the midfield. In the bachelor's degree programmes in Business Administration and Business Administration and Engineering, Chemnitz University of Technology is also in the middle of the field in the category "degrees within a reasonable time." However, a comparison with other universities is made more difficult by the fact that some categories in the three faculties represented at Chemnitz University of Technology could not be ranked in the CHE survey due to a low participation of Chemnitz students among other factors.
It is verified that about twelve percent of the surveyed students live in student halls of residence in the city of Chemnitz. However, the actual accommodation rate is higher according to the 2019 annual statistics of the German Student Union. It is 19.3 percent, ten percent above the national average. Currently, monthly dormitory rents vary between €169.50 and €276.50, depending on the size of the room or apartment. The Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau offers 2,025 places in the student residences on the TU campus.
