Layout and Design of Fuel Cell and Electrolyzer Stacks

Lecturer

Dr.-Ing. Nico Keller

Informationen

The course is held in in sommer term.

teaching method:
  • lectures: 2 LVS
  • exercises: 2 LVS

Content

The module first places electrolyzers and fuel cells in the context of hydrogen technologies. The stack structure of individual electrolyzers and fuel cells is then examined in detail. Various cell types, electrochemical and thermodynamic principles and their design, as well as production and assembly technologies, are presented. Cell components such as bipolar plates, membrane electrode assemblies, and seals, as well as the corresponding design criteria and their integration into the stack, are comprehensively examined. The knowledge is rounded out with an insight into various testing and diagnostic procedures. Practical relevance is ensured through the use of various reference stacks in individual courses.
