In the research field "From molecules to functional materials", chemical reactions, physical processes and material properties at the atomic and molecular levelĀ are studied. ThereforeĀ a close colaboration between chemistry, physics and interdisciplinary fields such as nanotechnology and photonics is established here at the TU Chemnitz. Also the competence for synthesis, subsequent analsis as well as utilization of functional molecules, e.g. for sensors, spintronics and optics are included in this field.

The outstanding research infrastructure in our institute enables us to characterize and manipulate various materials at the atomic level. Our experimental characterization techniques (STM, AFM, TEM, ARPES, Raman, ...) are complemented by ab initio calculations and modeling.
