International Relations

The department of International Relations examines actors and structures on the international level, including national foreign policies, the interplay between international and domestic politics as well as patterns of regional integration, co-operation and conflict, for example in Europe, the Middle East and the transatlantic relationship. In addition to state actors, the department explores the roles of (international) non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and international governmental organisations (IGOs) in transnational, intergovernmental and supranational cooperation. NATO and the European Union are of particular interest in this regard, including their historical development, current functions and future significance for Germany and Europe.
