About us
In Chemnitz and at TU Chemnitz, educational studies look back to a long tradition, in the context of which there has been a particular focus on combining educational studies with engineering education which has strong roots in the region. E. g. further education studies in the fields of vocational education and engineering education were elements most of all of the range of technological studies as early as at former TH Karl-Marx-Stadt (since 1986: TU Karl-Marx-Stadt).
With the foundation of the Faculty of Philosophy in 1993 and the establishment of Master and teacher training courses (temporarily abandoned in 1998), a number of new Professorships or Chairs in education (apart from the currently existing Chairs of Social Paedagogy and Media Education) were established. Over the then following years until the implementation of the Bologna Process, both staff policy and the orientation of the discipline underwent much change, which found particular expression by the foundation of an Institute of Education and Philosophy (IEP) in 2005. With the introduction of the B.A. Course in Education (2006) and the Master Course in Education (2009), the up then offered Master courses were completely replaced – since then, the B.A. of Education and the M.A. of Education have already underwent several structural and curriculum changes or further developments.
Since 2012 there exists the Institute of Education (IoE) with its current organisational structure and the structure of its disciplines. This includes four full Chairs,
- Chair of General Educational Science
- Chair of Educational Science with a Focus on Methods of Educational Research
- Chair of Adult Education and Further Education
- Chair of Vocational and Business Education
one junior professorship
as well as about a dozen scientific staff members active in research and teaching at the various Chairs.
The facilities of the Institute are in the buildings Reichenhainer Straße 39/40 (see menu item contact). Teaching happens in the various teaching buildings of TU Chemnitz (Campus Reichenhainer Straße, Campus Erfenschlag, Wilhelm-Raabe-Straße and Main Building in Straße der Nationen).
