Meeting of the FAST/SPS expert group
The 27th meeting of the FAST/SPS Expert Group took place on April 1, 2026, for the first time at Chemnitz University of Technology. The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, with the professorships of Composite and Material Compounds (Prof. Dr. Guntram Wagner) and Materials and Surface Engineering (Prof. Dr. Thomas Lampke), hosted the international working group consisting of participants from industry and research focusing on the technology of field-assisted sintering. The institute operates a system from FCT Systeme GmbH of the type KCE®-FCT HP D 25.
A total of 35 participants from Germany, Poland, and Switzerland accepted the invitation to Chemnitz.
Following a brief introduction to the institute with a focus on its research priorities, six technical presentations were given. Among them were three in-house contributions on FAST/SPS sintering of recyclates from AlSi7Mg0.6 chips and TiAl6V4 chips, as well as the extrusion of particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) using the FAST/SPS process. Subsequently, TU Freiberg presented work on high-entropy alloys. Jakub Wiśniewski from the Łukasiewicz Research Network (Poznań Institute of Technology) reported on the influence of high heating rates (> 2000 °C·min⁻¹) on densification in a FAST/SPS system. A final contribution from the Swiss company EPoS introduced the “Electro-Sinter-Forging FAST/ESF” process, which enables the ultra-fast densification of metallic powders within fractions of a second.
The FAST/SPS Expert Group is led by Prof. Martin Bram from Forschungszentrum Jülich. More detailed information about the meeting and the FAST/SPS Expert Group can be found on the homepage: https://www.fast-sps.de/de.
