From February 11 to 13, 2025, Commission III of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) hosted its Intermediate Meeting at TU Dresden. Commission III of the IIW focuses on all scientific questions related to resistance welding, solid-state joining methods, and allied processes. The meeting was attended by research associates Marat Rebrin, Dr. Dmitrii Ozherelkov, and Dr.-Ing. Andreas Gester from the Chair of Composites and Material Compounds. Dr. Ozherelkov delivered a presentation on the investigation of causes and effects of wire contamination on the ultrasonic metal welding process. Additionally, Mr. Rebrin shared his latest findings on the implementation of a novel ultrasonic-assisted friction stir welding process (FLEX-USE-FSW system) and the resulting process and microstructural improvements.

The lecture sessions were complemented by a highly engaging guided city tour of Dresden and an exciting visit to the institute of the Chair of Joining Technology and Assembly at TU Dresden.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers from the Chair of Joining Technology and Assembly at TU Dresden for hosting this outstanding event and facilitating the scientific exchange among participants.
