On 25 October 2024, the XLI. µ Symposium took place. The annual international conference, organised by Prof. Dr. Ralph Mayer from the Chair of Vehicle System Design at Chemnitz University of Technology, brings together approx. 100 experts from industry and research in the field of brake technology. Current research and development results were presented and discussed in specialist presentations. Following the presentations and during the breaks, there was a lively exchange between the participants. Dr. Christiane Wächtler from the Group of Composites and Material Compounds contributed a lecture entitled ‘Particle-reinforced aluminium matrix composites as alternative brake linings’, in which she presented the results of the DFG project ‘Phenomenological analysis of sintered aluminium matrix composites for use in vehicle friction brake linings’. This project is a cooperation between the Professorships of Composites and Material Compounds (Prof. Dr. Guntram Wagner) and Vehicle System Design (Prof. Dr. Ralph Mayer) and combines material synthesis and characterisation with technological research and evaluation of the braking behaviour.
