Every three years, experts from the fields of economics and science are elected as reviewers for the Industrial Collective Research (Industrielle Gemeinschaftsforschung, IGF) by the Federation of Industrial Research Associations (Arbeitsgemeinschaft industrieller Forschungsvereinigungen, AiF). It is the reviewers’ job to decide on over 550 annual applications with an average total funding of over 170 million euros that is provided by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. One of the main aspects is the application-oriented research in close collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises. For the area of materials, Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Guntram Wagner, who became the head of the Professorship of Composites and Material Compounds in 2014, was proposed as a first-time reviewer by various research associations like the German Association for Welding and Related Processes e.V. (DVS), the Research Association of Industrial Furnace Construction e.V. (FOGI) and the German Materials Society e.V. (DGM) and was directly elected.

Regarding this, Prof. Guntram Wagner commented as follows: “Of course I am very much pleased that the research fields that I represent, both in depth and breadth, as well as my involvement in various scientific networks in the academic and industrial research landscape, receive such an appreciation that my expertise as a reviewer in the area of materials is desired. The boundary conditions and opportunities that has been provided and still being continuously provided by the Chemnitz University of Technology for the development of my professorship and my own scientific profile are the key aspects for this.
