Work Permit

In the same way like visa and residence permit, the necessity of being in possession of a work permit in order to be entitled to take up an employment in Germany depends on the country of origin.

In contrast to citizens from EU-member-countries who are entitled to take up an employment in Germany immediately after their entry according to Section 2 of the Freedom of Movement Act/ EU, citizens from so-called "third-party countries", which means not from an EU- nor from an EEA-member state, are only entitled to take up an employment in Germany under the condition that this is explicitely permitted in the residence permit.

If this is not the case and you would like to take up an employment, please address as soon as possible to the Immigration Authority.

In the case that you are a professor at Chemnitz University of Technology and that you would like to employ a foreigner, please pay attention to the respective information leaflet of the Department for Human Resources.
