Completed
DronesAI
Project Period 01.01.2023 - 31.12.2024
Funding DAAD
TUC Contact Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Wolfram Hardt

The planned project Smart.Eco establishes the establishment of new networks and cooperation between TU Chemnitz and universities in Jordan and Qatar, as well as between universities in Jordan and Qatar, in the sense of a "South-South exchange.

The planned project also serves to promote dialogue and knowledge exchange between Germany and universities in the Islamic world, as well as to improve the quality of research and teaching at the partner universities in Jordan and Qatar. As part of the Faculty of Computer Science, the Chair of Technical Computer Science focuses on issues for autonomous flight and driving missions. A focus is on drone technology, image processing and the use of AI approaches.

The University of Jordan (UJ) was founded in 1962 in the capital city of Amman and has developed into the largest university in Jordan. In fact, it is the first university in Jordan. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (UJIEC) at the University of Jordan was established in 2015. Its goal is to support innovators and entrepreneurs at the University of Jordan and to bring together the local public and private sectors to promote innovation and entrepreneurial culture, education, and training.

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is the first national applied university in Qatar, offering applied bachelor's and master's degrees as well as diplomas in various fields. UDST offers over 50 programs in the areas of computer and information technology, engineering technology and industrial professions, business management and health sciences. As part of the project, a lab for environmentally friendly solutions, a "Sustainable Lab," will be established at each foreign partner university in Jordan and Qatar. In this lab, students from foreign universities can research projects on environmentally friendly solutions and will be able to develop, implement, test and bring -through incubators and support at the universities- their projects to the market (Building Start-Ups) Especially the projects based on drone technology, computer vision and artificial intelligence will be supported in the lab. The research results will be integrated into the apprenticeship.

In summary, the project aims to achieve the following:

  • Realization of research projects in the field of environmentally friendly solutions using drone technology, computer vision, and AI (artificial intelligence) methods
  • Identification and support for the implementation and commercialization of student projects through the planned "Sustainable Lab". The lab contributes to the dissemination and transfer of knowledge and research results
  • Establishment of networks between universities and local economic partners with the goal of actively involving local businesses in the development of teaching, thus reducing the gap between theory and practice.
