RescueFly — UAV-Based Water Rescue Support
Since January 1, 2022, RescueFly has been funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. The project aims to support water rescue teams in the future using automated drones—housed in decentralized "drone hangars"—to assist with operations. The intelligent drone hangar, which is connected online to a central rescue control center and equipped with appropriate sensor technology, serves as the docking station for the drone (Unmanned Aircraft System, or UAS). It is deployed locally at identified danger zones to support rescue services—specifically in the context of water rescue. A representative operational area for the project is the Lusatian Lake District (Lausitzer Seenlandschaft), specifically Lake Geierswalde and Lake Partwitz, which are located across the federal states of Brandenburg and Saxony.
As part of the project, a drone, the "intelligent" drone hangar, and additional alert and AI components—designed for image recognition and flight mission optimization—are being developed specifically for this use case.
