Information for Mentors

Mentors Use of Mentoring Relationship:

  • Knowledge and experience exchange

  • Expansion of work network

  • Further development of counselling and leadership competencies

  • Further development of social skills

  • Reflection upon own career and work methodology

  • Building up relationships and cooperations with other mentors

  • Active promotion of young talents

How the Programme Works

The mentoring programme takes up to 12 months (for PhD students) or 18 months and can be extended depending on the individual’s needs. 10 to 15 Tandempartenrs will take part in the programme. During this period, you, as a mentor, have the opportunity to take part in a network with your mentee. The following steps will be awaiting you as a mentor:

  1. The young talent (mentee) inform us about her prefered mentor. Afterwards, you, as a potential mentor, will be contacted by the project manager.

  2. If you like, an individual meeting will be arranged to further explain the programme (personally or on the phone).

  3. After you decided to be a mentor, your contact information will be given to the mentee, and those of the mentee will be given to you. The mentee will then contact you (by phone or mail). During your first meeting, you may exchange the expectations both of you have of this relationship as well as the framework for your future work relationship. These points of discussion can be held on to in a mentoring-agreement. After your successful first meeting, your relationship begins, and a participation agreement is signed.

  4. If you agree to be ready to accompany and support your mentee, we will ask you to fill out a profile sheet to document your contact information, expectations towards the programme and the mentee. You will send us the profile sheet (PDF) back, after filling it out completely.

  5. Out of past experiences, we recommend the contact between the mentor and mentee to occur every four to eight weeks. How often you meet is decided by you and your mentee. However, the mentee is responsible for coordinating the dates of your meetings.

  6. As a mentor, you have the opportunity to use the networking events, if your schedule allows it, to meet other tandem partners who are also participating in the programme.
