Energy efficient WLAN mesh networking for real-time localization

As part of the project, Agilion GmbH's radio localization and sensor data infrastructure (Real-Time Location System, RTLS) will be extended by a meshed, multi-hop radio network according to IEEE 802.11s (WLAN mesh). A wireless communication infrastructure is to be implemented, which is suitable for the reliable transmission of localization data and other user data and which also remains functional in the event of power failures or during solar or battery operation. The primary goal is to increase the energy efficiency of the mesh nodes in order to maximize the duration of self-sufficient operation in case of power failures or to enable completely self-sufficient solar/battery operation. The particular challenge lies in the development and implementation of mechanisms (mesh routing methods and energy-saving mode control of mesh nodes) which are specially adapted to this application and coordinated with each other. These mechanisms achieve both high energy efficiency and high reliability (availability) of the WLAN mesh network.
