Powerline Communications

The research goal is the realisation of a broadband data transmission over the already installed on board power supply in a motor vehicle. Through the omission of additional wiring harnesses, a significant weight- and cost reduction can be obtained in the car manufacturing process. As opposed to home power line communication (PLC) different demands and environmental conditions have to be dealt with in an automotive environment. Strong interfering signals and higher electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements must be emphasised.

Within the research project particular characteristics of the interference spectrum shall be used purposefully. Those characteristics combined with proper modulation schemes should then lead to a digital signal transmission. In combination with high performing error correction mechanisms and a suited signal coupling a broadband data transmission shall be realised under the harsh conditions in a motor vehicle.
